SPD was effectively destroyed back when the WTO event happened in the 90s. Very similar to what happened to the LAPD during the Rodney King riots. They where told at first not to do anything by order of the mayor, then when things got bad where ordered to "restore the peace". After they did that, and they usual suspects started yelling about "peaceful protests" and "stormtroopers" the department's leaders where publicly gutted by the city. Once that happened the new leadership saw the writing on the wall and became strictly interested in self-protection. If you have influence you get protected, whether that influence is from being powerful or a cop, if not then your on your own until after the fact.

Same exact problem and symptoms... this is no coincidence. Brought the laptop in and Apple says the logic board is faulty and says it doesnt qualify. Luckily i found a repair shop that fixed it for cheap (yes, the GPU was the part fixed.. logic board was fine). This entire situation is to save both sides money. Nvidia doesnt acknowledge the number of units affected properly and Apple doesn't wanna help customers with this problem... grasping at any excuse they can find to not help. I will be happy to join any class action suit and am thinking to go the legal route also. Congratulations to you for getting your issued resolved.

My GPU failed yesterday after a brief flickering of both LCD and external monitor it uit nd will not boot back.
Both external monitor and LCD went berzerk simultaneusly, which by definition talks about a bad graphics chip IMHO.
It happened in the office with half a dozen witnesses... I was told by the Apple "Genius" [sic] that he would check 'the system' to see if the "recall" was still being offered. I have not heard from him and fear I will have to go the long way with this one. It failed because it is defective. I am a loyal Mac customer and very humble stockholder and will try to play nice with this one. After all it is an nVidia failure. Apple should really have a clear plan for this one. I guess they are scared about the number of failing chips put there that are hitting 3-4 years. Perhaps betting that the 4 comes quickly for the more. I'm well away from the 4 though.

It is no "Medium Large Over 4 1/2'", but it is a nice sign.

Road construction and other public infrastructure projects do impact businesses, although being that short-sighted is unfortunate. As you said, it will soon be easier for more people to visit.

i got questioned by the police for 20 minutes last Mothers day, some lady called them. Police were very nice, I guess I made the lady feel uncomfortable, which I don't want to do. I was just looking for some good water shots, not kids. Just so many kids there, hard to get good water shots without them.
Good thing your post is a parody, or you would be questioned by police instead of me. Funny, but in way not so funny.

I like how you make the distinction that all the landings were "survivable".

You got the plane on the ground and, for the most part, people lived. Did they walk away? Meh, they lived, that's what counts.

Im a month in and absolutely love the mountains, the art all around and interesting shops but foolishly we moved to dt seattle...now, THATS interesting! As a young couple in our prime not bearing children yet, we thought we would have a blast every night, going out to eat, drinks, music and whatnot but truly we are house ridden at 7 pm in complete strangeness that surround us.

Everything in this neighborhood closes at 6 promptly so that the bums, addicts and general crazies can take over the streets. No cops, no cars, its a fucking ghost town on a sunday @ 9:45pm-a scary one we found out our first weekend here looking for a late dinner. At pioneer sqr, we were subjected to a man being punched out for reasons we couldn't tell while others cheered on, mentally ill menacing zombies staring us down as if we were fillet mignon, and young girls drunk stumbling alone bound to be raped and such...after 15 mins we turned around and went home hungry lol. On a seperate occasion, we exited tbe wrong end from pioneer sqr station and walked through a old asian lady picking out her rocks from a receipt a blk dude was holding, handed him money and waddled off in front of us, shitty pants and all...and it was only 6!

Tonight was our first trip to 3rd and pike...hence my search of "weirdos on 3rd & pike" leading me to your article. Glad to know im not just some pussy from FL who is in a rude awakening to a real city from Disney World! I would take seattle over orlando any day but i guess i need to find another neighborhood to call home. Thanks for your insight, i can finally sleep tonight.

Here's more on the class-action issue and why that may not be likely against Apple.

<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/your-money/class-actions-face-hurdle-in-2011-supreme-court-ruling.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/your-money/class-actions-face-hurdle-in-2011-supreme-court-ruling.html</a>

I don't know why the news media is not reporting on how Apple has screwed its customers on this issue. There must have been ten of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, of these computers sold.

I reread the MacRumors post and it's different from what I thought. (A genius did tell me he understood different GPUs had been installed on the logic replacement boards). The MacRumors post says the judge erred because not all the GPUs are bad in the logic boards and a test of a replacement logic board in your computer would have shown if you had a another bad GPU. (My 2 replacement boards have bad GPUs).

Also, Time Magazine hails your victory against Apple but says a class-action suit is not possible against Apple on this issue due to a ruling from the U.S. Supreme court that allows businesses to prohibit class-action suits from consumers by disallowing such lawsuits in contracts consumers sign, and that small claims court it the only recourse available.

Rex,

On the MacRumors forum, your lawsuit is discussed and some suggest that it was not said in court that the same GPU is used on the logic board replacements for computers with the NVIDIA GPU issue but a different GPU. Can you clarify this? Thank you.

Rex, you're my hero!

I have a 15-inch Macbook Pro with the NVIDIA bad GPU, as confirmed by an Apple store. Though I came into an Apple store early May 2012 with the computer two weeks past the 4-year NVIDIA warranty period (computer purchased mid April 2008) the kind folks at the store agreed to replace the logic board free because it was so close to warranty. I had been having problems during the warranty period before it failed a week before I brought it in. I was happy to get the replacement . Now I'm not, because my replaced logic boards keep failing!

I've had two replaced logic boards in two weeks in an Apple store and moving on my third replacement. The first logic board failed within a few days, then a second logic board was put in yesterday. Now again I getting geometric designs, failed video, etc, and will take it in for a third logic board, all within less than 2 weeks! The genius at the Apple store said the replacements keep failing but that the GPU was supposedly changed. (He didn't seem to believe the GPU was different by the way he said it.) But your lawyers seem to indicate it's the same logic board with the same GPU. No wonder the boards keep failing!

I asked for an extended warranty beyond 90 days for the logic board since they are obviously failing or a replacement computer but got nowhere. I'm going back in with your blog when I do my third logic board replacement and may next file a complaint with the BBB. Apple clearly is not "fixing" these computers if it is putting in the same defective GPU when it replaces the logic board. Apple is just hoping the GPUs fails after the 90-day warranty on the logic board replacements expire. Really, this seems like fraud or some criminal action to put back in the same defective part!

Why is there no real news coverage on how Apple is ripping off its customers on this defective product? Am I angry? You bet. Will I buy another Apple computer? I will not. Please file a class action suit. I may not get a replaced computer but it will at least highlight Apple's ripoff of its valued customers.

Hey Jay...I'm from Wichita and KCMO. You hit the nail on the head with the burned out tail lights! I often follow cars (mostly Saturns, Corollas, Mazdas, minivans) utilizing ONE center mount tail lamp for brake lights. Both left and right are burned out but the single bulb is all they have to indicate braking.

And another favorite is NO SIGNALING! Or they will proceed into a fast brake turn and give a half flash. Very annoying.

Have you been behind the lane drifters yet? You know, the ones that have rubbed the white paint line down to the pavement because they all drive ON THE FOG LINE!!

You have an outdated image for the current Starbucks logo. It's been further depersonalized since the one you show. The current logo is the one in the bottom right: http://assets.starbucks.com/assets/5a106e41fe954581999566a4293ced89.jpg

Come on - this will totally stimulate the local pusher and prostitute economy. It will be almost as good as belltown! You know you can't get decent weed or hos in Kirkland.

Skanska has been working on this place forever. How long does it take to paint, put up some shelves and put in the cash registers? It took them two weeks just to put all that goofy red "City Target" paper on the windows. I'll bet those Boeing execs moving into the old Wamu building next door can hardly wait!

What a timely article. I just read through all the comments and we definitely need a class action lawsuit. This is preposterous. My $3000 17" 2008 MacBook Pro would not boot clearly exhibiting the logic board failure due to the Nvidia GPU everyone has mentioned here. Fruit Genius tells me 487 to fix in store or 300 shipped out. BUT, in order to ship it out, I had to re-install the hard drive, which I had removed because I needed it for work. This was my first and only Apple product and it will be my last.

Eh, not fully ... I still get a craving now and then. Usually about once a week.

For some reason, the further removed it is from a carcass (thin deli stuff instead of thick, meaty burgers), the more palatable it is.

Humans are good at self-delusion, and I am a human.

Sort of.
