A couple of weeks ago, we went to Pike Place Market to grab some food from the Market Galbee Korean place.  When we got there, we were suprised to find that it was no more.  In its place was a new food stand called “Pike’s Pit BBQ”.

“What is this?!  I don’t like change!!”, I called out, at which point I closed my eyes and held my breath until the gods or whoever put things back the way I had grown accustomed to them.  When I opened my eyes, everything was restored to its previous state, so we got our food and left.

The end.

Alright, I lied, Pike’s Pit was still there so we got food from it instead, and we were very pleasantly surprised.

How pleasantly surprised?

Well, by the time we polished off the sandwiches, both my companion and I declared it to be the best BBQ Stand barbecue we had ever eaten. I’m not kidding.  It was that impressive.

Now, I’ve never had genuine Memphis BBQ, or BBQ from anywhere in the deep South, nor have I had an incestuous rendezvous with my sister, so I’m not like, Joe Barbecue critic or anything.

I did, however, once stay at a Holiday Inn Express, which qualifies me to speak with authority on most if not all topics.  This being the case, the BBQ is probably as good as I say.

These guys have another store in Seattle, only that one is called “Pecos Pit BBQ“.  They’re also opening a restaurant in West Seattle, and that one will be called “Perspicacious Pit BBQ” (I’m guessing on the name).

Now, when I find a new place that I like, that place follows a rather predictable path.  It’s great for the first couple of months, then the service goes downhill, then the food goes downhill, and before you know it, they’re slapping a piece of shoe leather between two buns and calling it a sandwich.  So while the BBQ is good now, I can’t say what it will be in 6 months.

If you’re here now, however, then do yourself a favor and give the place a try.
