Current Gas Prices on Capitol Hill

I sure I am glad that I don’t drive, because things are getting kind of ugly around here with regards to gasoline prices. It’s currently $4.17 to $4.57 at the Forbidden Shell in Pike/Pine. A talking head on the news this morning said that gas prices should come down 50 cents by mid-June, but I suppose I’ll believe it when I see it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going soft on suburban commuters, but it’s much bigger than them. Gasoline prices are inflating transportation fees for materials and products, and this is translating to higher prices for consumer goods across the board.

Of course, these prices would come down dramatically if suburban commuters changed their habits, but we all know that’s not going to happen. It’s easier to throw some stuff in the recycling bin, drive to a couple of “Save the Earth” rallies, and call it a day.

It’s the American Way.

Thank god the farmers’ markets are about to kick into gear. Yes, the local farmers buy gas to bring their products to market, and will need to increase prices a bit to cover the cost. But doubt the jump will be on par with what’s happening to produce prices in the grocery stores. Along with most everything else on the shelves.
