Photos from Freeway Park During Sakura-Con 2012 (2 pages)

Living near Freeway Park means frequently mingling with convention-goers from the adjacent Washington State Convention Center. One of the most interesting of these convention groups is the Sakura-Con crowd which, just after we bid farewell to the rainy season, descends upon our fair city each April.

Sakura-Con 2012

At this time each year, the neighborhood is taken over by video game and animation fanatics, and each year, hanging out in Freeway mimics an acid trip as creatures from both my dreams and nightmares roam the park, on break from the packed convention halls.

This weekend, the convention kicked off, and I once again shared the park with a group I have grown somewhat fond of.

I’m not a huge animation fan, but for some reason, I really look forward to Sakura-Con.

I’m not sure why.

Looks a bit like a real life episode of SNL sketch “J-Pop America Fun Time Now”
