Actually, that phrase was first used in the movie “The Green Mile” in 1999 (Tom Hanks says “what happens on The Mile stays on The Mile”). I am unsure if the phrase was used in the book the movie was based on (which would make the phrase originate in 1996 when the book was published).
The Las Vegas slogan of “What happens here stays here” first hit the scene in 2003, and then was recycled again in 2009 after wasting $87 million (paid to R&R Partners to come up with a new slogan). So not only did R&R Partners not come up with something original, they reused a slogan from 6 years prior that wasn’t even original to begin with. And they spent $87 million in taxpayer money to do it.
Your government in action.
BTW, you can read about it from The Man himself when it happened: http://www.casinoguide.com/blogs/current-events/what-happened-in-vegas/
