Photos: The SBX Radar in Elliott Bay

Since last night’s photo session was, how should I say this … uninspiring … I went down to the waterfront this morning to get some better images.

Since I had to zoom in through a half mile of rain this morning, the photos are still a bit blurry, but you get the gist.

The gigantic dome is quite a sight to behold. Especially when juxtaposed against the natural beauty of the Puget Sound.

    Interesting.

I think it’s going to require a ferry ride if you want to get any closer. Looks like a security boat may be out in front of it.

As regards the natural beauty of Puget Sound though, the SBX may be interesting, but it’s ugly. I’m afraid it’s dropped the Seattle skyline to #3 in North America while it’s there. :)

Screw the ferry. Get on a jetski and charge that sucker. I’m pretty sure they won’t shoot you or anything like that.

I imagine it emits a constant unearthly ‘ommmmm’ that tickles the bowels.

Supposedly, it can detect a baseball 2,000 miles away … but I would like to see that to believe it.

I would think the curvature of the earth would obscure such a feat.

While I could see that range being possible it seems to be that (it would have to be using a frequency that could be bounced off the atmosphere) the latency in the signal would make the information worthless.

I would also think that at that distance noise and other clutter would require you to really process the information before it could be trusted.
