“License bicyclists!”, they scream on local news sites in a desperate attempt to divert attention from the real problem.
The problem which is: The slaughter of our people at the hands of automobile drivers.
Last week, a Kirkland bicyclist was killed at the hands of an intoxicated driver. Read the comment section of that article for absolute proof that most people should not have a driver’s license.
This murder came on the heels of several other high-profile deaths this past summer, all of which came on the heels of a man getting a $42 fine for killing a bicyclist, ironically, also in Kirkland.
Forty two dollars.
For killing a man.
And low-and-behold, months later, another man is killed in much the same manner.
Wow, who could have seen that coming?
I mean, who, other than yours truly …

Having already written numerous articles about this issue, I feel a certain degree of hopelessness. Each time another person is senselessly killed, the sheep become enraged until they find out that Kim Kardashian has a new boyfriend. Months later, another person is killed, rinse and repeat.
It’s not just bicyclists who are being mowed down, though.
Last night, five people were run over by an automobile in Fremont, and one of those people is in critical condition as I type this.
The first comment on that article?
“… if you’re a pedestrian or a drunk idiot fresh out of a bar… STAY OUT OF THE STREET, it’s totally preventable. There will always be drunk drivers because it’s their choice, the law can crack down on them, but it’s also a choice whether to stand in the street or not. GET OUT OF THE STREET, your bloated egos are no match for speeding vehicles. Move or get moved.”
Move it or get moved.
The credo of one too many Puget Sound automobile drivers. These people are allowed to operate a motor vehicle on city streets. They are allowed to drive through Pike Place Market.
Imagine, if you will, an airline pilot. Imagine he writes into a publication and says something to the effect of “I don’t care what the FAA says, Cessna pilots better get the hell out of my way, or I’ll move them myself!” There would be subpoenas, and there would be inquiries to find this pilot who is almost certainly a danger to the flying public.
An automobile pilot, however, one who is licensed by the state to operate at high speeds within inches of other vehicles and pedestrians, is just shrugged off as a lone loon.
This, is why people are dying.
We have hundreds, possibly thousands of drivers who simple don’t like non-drivers, and we have drivers who are convinced that bicycles and other vehicles don’t belong on the road, despite the fact that the law says otherwise. We have drivers who get in numerous “accidents” before their licenses are ever put in jeopardy, and we have drivers who hate city dwellers … yet come down here to drive each and every day, because they love our money.
The entire time, the Washington Legislature sits back with its thumb up its ass, tirelessly working on behalf of tunnel developers while declaring that the state is too broke to fund public education.
When I read articles like the one I read today, the only thing that surprises me is that these “accidents” don’t occur more often. We have hostile transplants clogging up our roads while ramming their California car-worshipping culture down our throats ad-nasueum, and those of us who dare try to walk our bikes routinely find ourselves staring down 3,000lb bullets aimed directly at us as we are trying to cross Pike Street.
And what is done about this?
Nothing.
It’s getting harder to traverse the city without a 4,000lb steel exoskeleton, and if Olympia and their Eastside handlers have their way, we will all be assimilated.
“No light rail, no bike paths, no people on foot … just give us our $4 billion tunnel and a pound of flesh”, they scream.
Well, they got their pound in 2011, and then some — but they want more.
If we don’t end the easy-license madness, I can assure you of one thing.
They’ll get it.
