Know your audience, that’s what I always say.
Alas, it appears that at least one enterprising Capitol Hill Real Estate speculator does, indeed, know his audience.
Not long ago, this Craigslist ad was posted in my forums.
I laughed, and thought “What a great prank, and only three days before April Fool’s Day. I sure wouldn’t want to be the owner of that phone number, though.”
Even though I was sure that it was a joke, curiosity got the better of me … and so … I called.
Imagine my surprise when I learned that the ad is actually on the level. Seriously. Allen really does have apartments for rent at 1722 Summit. 1 Bedrooms are currently going for $840. Not bad for the location.
Of course, the building is not really named “Hipster Arms”. The building has no name at all, although if Allen spent $50 for a sign, there’s no reason that the name could not become official.
So there you have it.
If you’re a hipster, and you’re looking for a place on Capitol Hill (and really, if you were a hipster, where else would you be looking?), this is one to put on your short list.
Long live the Hipster Arms.

This is not a story about guns for bedheads?
I worked in that building when it was a home for mentally ill adults.
