The Radiation Chopper

Helicopter Flying over Downtown to Measure Radiation Levels

Helicopter Flying over Downtown to Measure Radiation Levels

The Radiation Helicopter has been repeatedly spotted over Downtown Seattle today, and yours truly finally got a photo of said vehicle.

This particular aircraft has been commissioned by the Department of Health to map radiation levels in the Puget Sound area so that we may use those measurements as baselines in the event of an emergency.

For instance, if Downtown Seattle typically gives off 10Wm2 of radiation, and it gives of 50Wm2 after an earthquake … we know that radiation is leaking from somewhere. We were unable to measure radiation increases after the Japan earthquake because we lacked these baseline readings.

The helicopter flies at an altitude of 300 feet, and takes measurements at 600′ lateral increments. It is expected to fly until July 28th.

The project is being funded by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, which means the chopper is also probably peering through your windows with a high powered zoom lens, taking pictures of your wang.

When the scandal breaks, remember, you heard it here first.

Dude, you do realize that you have a bunch of nuke weapons probably within 60-70 miles of you?

Of course, I’d expect those to be secured much better than any commercial nuclear facility.
