Olympia, Washington. Without a doubt, home to the best burgers in the USA.
Big Tom’s, Eagan’s … if you like hamburgers, this is where you should be.
In Thurston County, south of Olympia, literally in the middle of nowhere … sits a small shack that serves the best hamburgers in the world.
Not the best hamburgers in the county.
Not the best hamburgers in the state.
Not the best hamburgers in the country.
The best hamburgers IN THE WORLD.
I am not exaggerating.
Van’s Burgers are good.
So good that I recently signed up for a service called “Zipcar”. It’s an hourly/daily car rental service for inner-city dwellers, and the reason I signed up was so that, during the summer, I could drive down to Van’s and eat their food.
That’s right, I am willing to pay $30 for a car, and spend three hours in transit, just to eat a hamburger. Once you’ve tried it, so will you.
I am not a culinary expert, and I have problems describing food in the typically insincere, “amazing” way of the paid food writer. I simply can’t do it.
What I will say is that Van’s is the pinnacle of hamburgerdom. Carnivore Nirvana. A hamburger so addictive, that it might just ruin all other hamburgers for you.
Van’s little stand serves a perfect burger. Huge, thick meat (that’s what she said), shredded lettuce, and tomatoes on a toasted bun. In between, there is some kind of sauce which I can only assume is made from the right-handed isomer of N-methylamphetamine.
Have you ever tasted God?
I mean, really and truly tasted God?
If not, you may want to join the likes of Mary Magdelene, and take God into your mouth.
