I see where it’s the 50th anniversary of the Seattle Monorail, that the original trains are still used, and that it operates at a profit. Interesting.
I was on it yesterday and it was sufficiently full.
ALWEG was the German company that built the original cars, (also did Disney, etc, etc.) At the time I am sure everybody thought it was exotic technology – maybe they cut a deal for the naming rights or something way back when…
Yes, the cars were donated to the city, not sure if naming rights were part of the deal, but it seems as it might have been. There’s a .com of the same name with a lot of the history documented.
