But if he takes a massive shit in it, what can you do?
In the middle of healthcare cuts, education cuts, mass transit cuts, and everything cuts … last night, voters approved a 2-mile, $3 billion tunnel under downtown Seattle. A tunnel which may very well increase traffic congestion, and a tunnel which may have a toll of up to $5 each way.
Oh, and they also re-elected Sally Clark.
The voters have spoken.
I’d love to say that these results in some way come as a surprise, but of course, they were completely expected. The reason that politicians openly take bribes, and the reason that big companies openly bribe them, is because they are both well aware that, when it comes down to it, the voters will do as they are told by those with the most money. It doesn’t matter how educated, uneducated, rich, or poor we are … we’re just dumb, pavlovian animals.
Remember, we’re the people that elected George W. Bush … TWICE!
I can hear it now: “Not me, Rex! I didn’t vote for Bush!”
Yeah, well, if he was the Democrat candidate, you would have. Same dogs, different bell.
Overall, turnout (or mailout as the case would be) for the vote was kind of lame. Slightly over 60,000 people cast their ballots in a city of over 600,000 people. I’m pretty sure over 10% of our people are of legal voting age, so once again the real winner in this election was “I don’t care”.
Remember this the next time you complain about traffic, air quality, gas prices, taxes, debt, corporate greed, or corruption of elected offi oh look, the new iPhone is out.
I WANT A WHITE ONE!

Racist
Rex: What is the over/under on the final cost of this project?
Boston’s Big Dig: Original estimate: $2.8 billion. Final cost: $14.6 billion.
Seattle’s Hole: Original estimate: $3 billion. Final cost: ?
I don’t know how corrupt government contracting is in Seattle, but I would venture to guess that it is not as bad as Boston. Also, it looks like the Seattle Hole is less complicated a project than the Big Dig, so I am setting the over/under on this project at $10 billion.
